The GCSE course covers all the essential aspects of living and working in a modern world economy. There are three units of study.  Â
In year ten we study ‘People in Business’ which includes topics like recruitment and selection and the organisation of businesses and their control. The examination for this unit is taken at the end of year ten and is worth 25% of the full GCSE.  Â
In year eleven we prepare for the controlled assessment which concerns marketing issues. We might be asked to advise a company on its business location for instance, or on a marketing technique. This unit is also worth 25% of the full GCSE.  Â
During year eleven we also prepare for the final exam which will be taken at the end of the course and is worth 50% of the GCSE. In this unit we will study production, finance and the external environment. Here the students will be able to learn topics including Total Quality Management, Cash Flow Forecasts and Government Competition Policy (to name but a few). Â
Whilst the study of GCSE Business Studies gives a good indication of aptitude for further study of Economics at A level, it is by no means essential.
