History

History has long been a very popular subject at Rougemont and this year we have seen our largest-ever numbers at GCSE and A Level. History at Rougemont plays a vital role in both helping students understand the origins of modern global political, social and economic issues and equipping them with the skills needed to evaluate and process the vast amount of information available to them in today’s world.

Studying History encourages an analytical approach to information, the need for questioning and evaluating evidence before reaching a supported judgement and the need to understand a wide range of often very different views. Students learn to thoroughly research information and to reach balanced judgements based on the available evidence. They begin to a empathise with the vast range of different human experiences, motives, emotions and values and to understand how these have shaped the history of the world. The History Department is continually adding to its long-standing programme of visits and speakers and tries to ensure that History is always a lively, engaging and visual subject for its students.

At GCSE we follow OCRs Modern World History Syllabus B and at A Level OCRs Syllabus A.

 Recent News:

On Friday 26th February, Mr Ziggi Shipper - an 80 year old survivor of the Holocaust - visited Rougemont. His talk to the Year 10 was both fascinating and moving and clearly had a huge impact on those who heard it. I would like to thank Mr Shipper for agreeing to visit Rougemont again and Ms Dugdale, whose hard work made his visit possible.
