The use of computer systems has become a major skill in all areas of life, whether as part of our working life, education or relaxation. Learning to handle these systems and gaining an understanding of their limitations is an important part of enabling us to make informed choices in our day to day decisions.
At Rougemont we aim to develop these skills, concentrating on different areas as students move through the school. ICT is a practically based subject, and the early years are spent familiarising students with the kind of applications they will need to use within their subject areas. Once foundations have been laid students begin to develop ‘solutions’ based on the use of these skills. The aim is to develop the ability to make informed choices about when IT could help a solution and to select the most appropriate resources to develop their solution.
At the GCSE and A level stages then an understanding of the principles and theory behind the systems becomes more important. A level allows the students to look more closely at the creation of software, using programming languages to create their own solutions.
