GCSE Information and Communication Technology

Pupils will need to handle and use Information Systems no matter what area of interest they choose to pursue. It is becoming essential that the various practicalities of using computers and other systems be understood. An awareness is needed of what can be done, the limitations of the computer, and how its use may affect our society.

The GCSE course is aimed at ensuring that the pupil has a practical knowledge of the use of the major applications (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing) and the use of Multimedia Solutions. Along with this it is aimed to teach some of the ways computers and other information systems are used in our society and increase the awareness of their advantages and problems.

The current course follows the WJEC ICT specification. It is composed of four modules of which two are Controlled  Assessment Tasks.

Unit 1 Understanding ICT - assessed by written examination 20%
Unit 2 Solving Problems with ICT - Controlled Assessment 30%
Unit 3 ICT in Organisations- assessed by written examination 20%
Unit 4 Developing Multimedia ICT Solutions - Controlled Assessment 30%
