At Rougemont, we share the view of the great composer Kodály who proclaimed: “The human soul has regions which can be illuminated only by music”. We aim to provide pupils with the basis for an informed and lasting love of music, either in its use as a leisure pastime or in a musical career.
We consider Music to play a significant role in developing life long skills:
- social and communication skills
- self-confidence and self-esteem
- commitment and perseverance
- spiritual awareness
- cultural development
Pupils are encouraged to develop a range of musical skills and interests, embracing creative, interpretive, historical and analytical aspects of the subject, which, in addition to being of value in themselves, will form a secure basis for the study and love of music beyond the confines of the classroom/course. Pupils’ understanding, sensitivity to, and, most importantly, enjoyment of music will be fostered through their involvement in listening, appraising, composing and performing activities.
At GCSE we follow the AQA specification and at A level WJEC.
