Sixth Form

The world is certainly your oyster when you are in the Sixth Form. Pupils are on the threshold of adult life, with their futures stretching out before them. They are coming to the end of their time in school, but they are about to launch themselves into their careers.

A Level choices are key, and pupils usually study four subjects at AS Level and three subjects for their A2 studies. Pupils are given help making their subject choices and are supported at every stage thereafter.

We encourage independent study and responsibility for individual learning and pupils have their own common room where they can relax and unwind. Of course, we don’t leave pupils completely to their
own devices and teaching staff are still here to support and guide them, but the emphasis is very much on pupils taking responsibility for their own learning.

Responsibility is encouraged and pupils undertake organisation of inter-house competitions and help younger pupils with their literacy and numeracy. Pupils are also given the opportunity to act as tour guides for parents who are considering Rougemont for their children.

Sixth Formers’ attention extends to wider projects such as Young Engineers, Young Enterprise, United Nations Debating and organising and running an annual charity fashion show, as well as involvement in school productions. This gives pupils the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and foster a sense of responsibility for younger pupils and the wider school community.

Naturally, our pupils’ attention starts to turn to the wider world and we prepare them for life at university. They are given UCAS and careers guidance as well as talks on what to expect at university and how to budget properly. At the end of the Sixth Form, pupils may have completed their school journey but what they have learned at Rougemont will remain with them for a lifetime.
