HANSEL & GRETEL – THE OPERA COMES TO ROUGEMONT!

Rougemont Juniors were honoured to be part of Musical Projects in South Wales and London Opera Productions Hansel and Gretel opera this winter.  This well-known fairytale was transformed into a beloved opera by German composer Humperdinck in 1892 and is most often performed at Christmas time due to its wintery, magical themes.

Working with Eleanor Farncombe in collaboration with Treadam Barn Trust was a unique opportunity for the children especially as opera is not largely taught in schools.

The lead characters of Hansel and Gretel were performed by our former pupils Clara Greening (Nancy in Oliver; Mrs Lovett, Sweeney Todd) and Kelly Shorthouse (Christine in Phantom of the Opera) who now work as professional singers.  It was a joy to welcome them both back to the Rougemont stage proving that Rougemont really is a ‘School for Life’!
